We had an absolute blast playing at the Colorado Irish Festival last weekend! The crowd was incredible, and the fact that we got to play an event that featured brilliant and talented acts like The Elders, Gaelic Storm, the Moxie Strings, the Screaming Orphans and many, many more was a dream come true. Thanks for having us — we hope to see you next year!

12-22-14 “Fairytale of New York”

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!

We’ve had a pretty exciting weekend.

On Friday, we posted a video of our version of the Pogues’ classic holiday tune “Fairytale of New York.” It was a fairly low-budget affair — we shot the video on a MacBook, and we relied on a pretty limited array of costumes. Even so, we were pretty happy with the results, and we weren’t the only ones.

We were honored to receive a shout-out from the Pogues themselves on Facebook, complete with a link to this website and a mention of our Saturday gig at the Abbey. All three of us have been listening to the Pogues for years, and the recognition was definitely one of the high points in our short history.

Check out the video and tell us what you think!

A Marriage of Musical Minds

What a wonderful few weeks it’s been!

We couldn’t have asked for a better celebration to commemorate the release of our first CD “Beloved,” as well as Adam’s solo EP “Old Love Songs and Other Unhealthy Fixations.” The crowd at Lannie’s Clocktower was a dream, and the slate of guest musicians and performers were beyond impressive. Pics of the evening are posted on our Facebook page, and the CD themselves are available in the ‘store’ section of this very website!

That party was just the first in many exciting events to come. First on the list is a collaboration with a very special set of friends slated for THIS SATURDAY NIGHT at the Mercury Café. We’ll be taking the stage with My Wooden Leg, Colorado’s premiere Gypsy folk outfit. The band specializes in the Old World sounds of Eastern Europe; their fusion of Gypsy, Hungarian and Russian folk strains summons the best of a time-honored musical tradition. We’re looking to kick off the first Celtic/Gypsy musical fusion with this show, and the partnership is bound to continue.

The show kicks off at 9 p.m. at the Merc, 2199 California St. in Denver. You can find event details and updates here. Don’t miss this night of first-rate folk music!!!

In the meantime, here’s a sample of My Wooden Leg’s musical prowess:

One week to go!

8/12/2014

The CDs have arrived. We’re hard at work rehearsing. The room is rented.

A mere week remains before our big CD release show on Oct. 19, and we couldn’t be more excited. The final pressing of “Beloved” is impressive in every way, from the gorgeous cover art by Marla Keown to the engineering and mastering work by Tom Payetta and Gannon Kashiwa. We’ve created a truly impressive debut album, and we hope you all feel the same way when you hear it for the first time.

To celebrate that occasion, we’ve put together quite a program for Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret on Oct. 19. We’ve got a killer setlist finalized, amazing guest musicians booked and about 1,000 CDs to sell. We owe a great deal of thanks to a great many people, a crew of supporters and creative collaborators that includes photographers, singers, web experts and old-fashioned friends and family.

We’re sure all the hard work and time is going to pay off, and we can’t wait to share the experience with you. In case you haven’t gotten around to reserving tickets yet, you can do so here. We’re looking forward to celebrating with you all next week!

9/17/14 — 32 days and counting…

poster

We’ve been somewhat silent this past month, but we’ve got plenty of compelling reasons. We promise.

Both Chelsea and I have had our hands full with the kind of work that’s fulfilling and exhausting all at once. Avourneen is prepping for our next milestone, and it’s going to be a big one.

Over the course of the past month, we’ve wrapped up the recording process for our very first EP titled “Beloved,” an eight-track, independent release set to hit on Oct. 19. Over the course of the past week, the progress on that project has come at a breakneck pace.

The album, recorded at Macy Sound Studios under the thoughtful and brilliant guidance of producer Tom Payetta, is mixed after four months’ worth of sessions. Just yesterday, we received digital copies of the mastered final project. In three days, I’m heading to the printer to make final plans for production. With help from good friends like photojournalist Marla Keown and mentalist Professor Phelyx, we’ve formalized art for the album and promotional posters.

It’s been a heady and time-consuming process, but one that we know will pay off in the weeks to come. Specifically, we’re counting the days before our big CD release show at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret planned for Sunday, Oct. 19. The show will be a dual release soiree for “Beloved” and my first solo EP, “Old Love Songs and Other Fixations.” Be assured, we’re planning for a big party, complete with special guests, unexpected covers and a little performance art thrown in for good measure. If you haven’t looked into it, there are still tickets available here. Better to reserve your spot now – we’re intent on selling the place out.

To achieve that goal, we’ll be taking to the web, the airwaves and the radio as much as possible in the next four weeks to make sure none of you forget about the show. We take the stage in 32 days and counting, so set your timers now!

In the meantime, you can catch us TONIGHT at Katie Mullen’s Restaurant and Bar at 1550 Court Place. Come say hello!

Cheers —

ADAM

8/13/14 – A Formal Welcome

So we’re official…

Adam Goldstein here, kicking off the updates section of Avourneen’s new website. Here you’ll find the latest news about the band, posted personally by one of the two of its charming and attractive members. We’ll do our best to keep current about upcoming gigs, releases and travels. Seeing as this is the official blog section of the site, you’ll find musings, stories and photos about a whole host of random subjects.

First and foremost, welcome to old friends and new fans alike. The past eight months has seen a lot of progress and a lot of work, and we’re both amazed by all of our accomplishments so far. Finding a home gig at one of the largest Irish bars in the Denver metro area, playing with a seasoned ensemble straight out of Leitrim, prepping the release of our first album … it’s been the inspiring stuff of dreams come true.

That trend is only set to continue in the coming months.

We’ve set an October release date for our first record, Beloved. We’ll celebrate that milestone with a no-holds-barred release show (read: big party) at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret on Oct. 19. We’re looking to expand to more and more venues in the metro area, and we’ve already started making plans for a voyage far, far away from the Rocky Mountains.

We’ll keep you all posted as we embark on each and every one of these adventures. Hopefully, you’ll share your own with us.

Cheers,

ADAM
